Celebration of 77th Republic Day of India on 26th January, 2026

Embassy of India in Belgrade celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India on 26 January, 2026. The event commemorated the day in 1950 when the Constitution of India came into force. Bharat, the birthplace of democracy was unshackled from the dominion system, and it’s democratic republic came into existence. This Constitution, the largest such document in the world, is the foundational document of the largest republic in world history.

  1. The Ambassador-designate of India Shri Abhishek Shukla unfurled the national flag of India at a ceremony held on the morning of 26 January 2026 at the Embassy premises. He read out the President of India’s address and in his own remarks to the guests recounted the remarkable strides made by India in all spheres, be it the economy which was strident and resilient, society which was exhibiting all-round progress, world-class infrastructure serving the needs of a growing and ambitious nation, robust national security, vibrant youth powering the nations aspirations, skill-sets adding value to countries across the globe, etc. Cultural programmes during the event included a rendition commemorating 150 years of Vande Matram, India’s National Song by Ms. Piyalee Das and a performance by Mr. Aranya on Sarod. 
  1. A reception was hosted by the Embassy of India in the evening attended by senior officials of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other ambassadors and diplomats, members of the Indian community, Serbian friends of India, representatives of Serbian business, media, and cultural organizations and other dignitaries.
  1. The event featured a series of captivating cultural performances including Ganesh Vandana (ode to Lord Ganesha) by Ms. Nadezda of Ganga Kathak Dance School, Shiva Tandava (the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva) by Ms. Biljana of the Himalayan School of Traditional Dance, Moksha- a classical Odissi performance, by Ms. Rosa of the Jay Jagannath School of Odissi Dance and a bollywood dance performance by Ms. Marija of the Nritaya Kadam Dance School. Performed to Indian classical music, these performances enchanted the audience and beautifully showcased the strong cultural ties between the people of India and Serbia.
