Embassy of India, Belgrade, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, has great pleasure to announce the display of the Exhibition ‘SARI: The Magic of Indian Weaves’ by Ms. Rta Kapur Chishti from 25th November to 7th December 2014 at the Ethnographic Museum, Studentski Trg 13, Belgrade.

The Exhibition, consisting of 36 Saris, is a tribute to the craftsmanship and skills of countless Indian spinners and weavers, showcased through saris. The Exhibits are taken from just seven of India’s states, representative of its north, south, east and west, and produced especially for this occasion. They reflect both traditional and contemporary design interpretations, highlighting a diversity of natural materials and techniques, as well as an evolving aesthetic and colour story.

The Sari, an unstitched draped garment with a fluid grace, goes back at least a thousand years in concept. It continues to capture the imagination of Indian women who wear it in daily life, as also on special occasions. This woven and textured-with-pattern garment, un-pierced by the stitching needle, is elegantly appropriate in terms of aesthetics and climate.

All interested are cordially invited to visit the Exhibition.
