Embassy of India, Belgrade, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi is displaying the Exhibition ‘SARI: The Magic of Indian Weaves’ by Ms. Rta Kapur Chishti on December 16, 2014 at the National Assembly of Serbia for exclusive viewing by the esteemed members, officials and visitors of the National Assembly of Serbia.  The exhibition was inaugurated today by H.E. Mrs. Narinder Chauhan, Ambassador of India and H.E. Ms. Maja Gojkovic, Hon’ble Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Ambassador conveyed her deep appreciation to the National Assembly for hosting the Exhibition and highlighted that the Exhibition, consisting of 36 Saris, is a tribute to the craftsmanship and skills of countless Indian spinners and weavers, showcased through saris.  The Exhibits are taken from just seven of India’s states, representative of its north, south, east and west, and produced especially for this occasion. They reflect both traditional and contemporary design interpretations, highlighting a diversity of natural materials and techniques, as well as an evolving aesthetic and colour story.

During the inaugural, the Indian Ambassador also presented to Hon’ble Speaker an Indian desk calendar dedicated to the girl child, and brought out by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

The Indian Ambassador also expressed her gratitude to the Government of Serbia for the gracious gesture to host the Exhibition at the Ethnographic Museum for 15 days.  A Sari Fashion Show was also organised by the Embassy on the occasion.
