Press Release

Live “RUDRA VEENA” performance by Indian classical music group
on 21st April, 2000 hrs at Kolarac Foundation, Belgrade.

Embassy of India, Belgrade, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, has great pleasure to announce the Live “Rudra Veena” performance by three member Indian classical music group led by Dr. Jayanta Kumar Das on Tuesday, 21st April, 2015 at 2000 hrs at the Kolarac Foundation, Studentski Trg 5, Belgrade.

The Rudra Veena is considered the mother of all stringed instruments.  It is a large plucked string instrument like Sitar used in Hindustani classical music. It is an ancient instrument rarely played today. As Rudra is a name for the Hindu god Shiva, rudra veena literally means "the veena dear to Shiva".  Its origin goes back to the very time when music was invented by meditators, trying to find a way to express their inner experiences. Rudra Veena is an instrument with the most meditative qualities.

Rudra Veena comes to Serbia for the first time.

The entry to the event is free.  All interested are cordially invited to the concert.
