HINDI DIWAS observed in Serbia with the inauguration of Hindi Chair at the University of Novi Sad

Hindi day was marked in Serbia in an impressive ceremony at the University of Novi Sad with the inauguration of ICCR's Hindi Chair. The ceremony was officiated by Ambassador Smt. Narinder Chauhan and attended by the University officials, students, Indologists and media.

The Hindi Diwas was marked by the inauguration of the Hindi Chair at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University. The MOU between the faculty and ICCR for the establishment of the Hindi Chair was signed by Ambassador in the month of May. On 14 September, the Indian incumbent assumed charge of the Hindi Chair.

On the occasion, apart from key note speeches by the Ambassador and University officials, documentary film on Nirvana was shown, and a short tabla lecture-demo was held by the ICCR tabla teacher. The blockbuster Bollywood film Jodha Akbar was also screened for the students. Three exhibitions were held at the premises of the Faculty: Photographic exhibition of IDY 2016 asanas, exhibition of Indian books: English and Hindi, and photographs of India by a Serbian Indologist.

The Hindi Chair is the first ever Indian Chair to be established in the Republic of Serbia. It is expected that the Chair will in time develop into a veritable India Studies Centre in the University.
