Serbian city of Vrsac hosts Mahatma Gandhi’s Exhibition 

Ambassador of India Mrs. Narinder Chauhan inaugurated Photo Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi ‘My Life is My Message’ followed by screening of the documentary ‘The Rise of the Mahatma’ at the Cultural Center of Vrsac on Friday, 17th November, 2017. The Exhibition which will run till 24th November spans from Mahatma Gandhi’s childhood and encompasses his life and work. 

On the occasion, Ambassador presented books on India for the Cultural Center of Vrsac as a gesture of Embassy’s appreciation for their efforts to promote Indian culture in Serbia. 

In her inaugural speech, Ambassador spoke about the Mahatma’s universal message of truth & non-violence and the events leading up to the declaration of October 2, Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday as the International Day of Non-Violence by the UNGA. The resolution was introduced by India and co-sponsored by Serbia and passed unanimously by the UNGA. Ambassador thanked the government and people of Serbia for naming an important Street in New Belgrade as Mahatma Gandhi Street (in 1970) and for installing Mahatma Gandhi’s statue gifted by India (in 2007).
