A cup of tea is a symbol of hospitality. Unfortunately it has now become a symbol of corruption. Kashinath Sawant, a state transport bus conductor from a village in coastal Maharashtra, lives with his family - wife Rukmini, old mother, two daughters Vasanti and Vanadevi, and two sons Chandan and Abeer. One fine day, the family is slammed with a huge electricity bill. They feel trapped and humiliated by the indifferent bureaucracy. Saving grace is their sense of humour and warmth of familial bond. The right to information act accidentally crosses Kashinath’s path. With the support of his driver friend Saiyyad and under the guidance of an activist Dr. Durga, Kashinath regains his honour. The film salutes those who never offered “a cup of tea” and chose to fight their battle silently.

PARINEETA ( The Married Woman )
2005 / Hindi / 129 minutes
Director: Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Cast: Vidya Balan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Raima Sen, Diya Mirza

“Parineeta” is an indomitable love story in a feudal setting. Lolita, the daughter of a retired officer works for her neighbour, Navinchandra Roy, to whom her palatial house is mortgaged. There is also their neighbour Charu’s wealthy brother who has returned from England and is vying for Lolita’s attention.
