Indian Ambassador awarded Charter of Gratitude by Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade

Today, Ambassador of India Mrs. Narinder Chauhan was awarded a Charter of Gratitude by the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. This is in recognition of the strong support extended to the Faculty for the institution of course ‘Cultural history of India’ by renowned Prof. Aleksandar Petrovic. A gift of nearly 300 books on India was also made to the University which have now been catalogued for use.

It is expected that as a result of these initiatives, the course will become the nucleus of India centric activities in the University. In former Yugoslavia, the school of Indology was created in Zagreb University which is now in Croatia. These initiatives were, therefore, a direct response to the need to have India studies centre in Belgrade University, the largest University of Serbia.

The event was attended by Serbian Minister of Culture, H.E. Mr. Vladan Vukosavljevic, Dean of Faculty of Philology Ms. Ljiljana Markovic, senior officials of the Government, renowned personalities of Serbia, diplomatic corps and members of various international organizations.
