India-Serbia Cooperation in the field of Information Technology & Electronics

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Cooperation in the field of Information Technology & Electronics was signed in Belgrade today between Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology of the Government of the Republic of India and Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunication of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.  Ambassador of India to the Republic of Serbia, Mrs. Narinder Chauhan and Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism & Telecommunications Mr Rasim Ljajic, signed the MOU in the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Prime Minister’s Office, who is on official visit to Serbia.

The objective of this MOU is to establish inter-institutional co-operation and relations between the two countries, in the field of IT & Electronics and foster active cooperation and exchanges between the private entities, capacity building institutions, Governments and other public and private organizations of the two countries.

Under the terms of agreement, both countries will enhance cooperation for using IT as a tool to improve public service delivery i.e. e-learning, e-government services, tele-medicine, e-education, e-authentication, cyber security, internet-governance, e-commerce etc.  The two countries will also explore cooperation in R&D and Innovation in IT & Electronics sector through joint collaborative projects, organizing technical exhibitions, workshops, seminars, expert visits & training sessions and will develop cooperation on IT hubs, start-up companies and infrastructure incubators.

The MOU shall be implemented by establishing a Working Group to define methodologies, mechanisms and procedures for the development of the activities provided in the agreement.

The signing of MOU is a major step in developing and strengthening industrial, technological and commercial cooperation between the two countries in IT&E sector and to implement institutional and capacity building cooperation aimed at fostering partnerships between the two friendly nations.
