Ambassador promotes International Day of Yoga (IDY 2017) in Šabac

H.E. Mrs. Narinder Chauhan, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Serbia visited the Serbian city Šabac on 1st June 2017 and held a lecture on the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2017 at the Šabac Gymnasium. Addressing the students, Ambassador spoke of the physical, mental and numerous health benefits of Yoga. At the occasion the film “Common Yoga Protocol” was screened and students of the Šabac Gymnasium, local officials and yoga practitioners were encouraged to take part in this year’s event.

As in the past two years, the Embassy of India, Belgrade in association with Government of Serbia and United Nations Country Team in Belgrade is organizing the International Day of Yoga in Serbia (IDY) on Saturday, June 17, 2017. The event in Belgrade will be held on June 17 at the Victor Statue, Kalemegdan Park. at 8 a.m. The event will be held as per the Common Yoga Protocol prepared by Indian yoga experts, followed by workshops and consultations on Yoga, Ayurveda and Homeopathy in the City Hall of Belgrade.

United Nations General Assembly passed a Resolution in its 69th Session in 2014 to declare June 21 as the International Day of Yoga (IDY). The esteemed Government of Serbia was one among the 177 nations that had co-sponsored India’s Resolution in the United Nations. In pursuance of this initiative, the Embassy of India has been celebrating IDY across all major cities in Serbia.
