Days of the Indian Science in Serbia

As part of the celebration of 70 Years of India’s Independence and 70th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Serbia, Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade in association with the Institute of European Studies organized ‘Days of the Indian Science in Serbia’ including the First India International Scientific Conference in Belgrade and Matica Srpska, Novi Sad from September 26-28, 2017.

The Conference highlighted the relation between cultural and political legacy of European Union and India in the light of contemporary social changes and historical influence of Mahatma Gandhi’s political thought.

Ambassador of India delivered keynote Address at the Conference. The Steering Committee included three prominent Indian Scholars, namely, Prof. Dr. Bharathi Harishankar, University of Madras, Chennai, Prof. Dr. Gyuanabati Kyriam, National Institute of Technology, Agartala and Prof. Dr. Rajnath Bhat, Banaras Hindu University. Prof. Rajnath Bhat delivered a lecture “Gandhi: His Relevance in the Contemporary World” and Prof. Chinmoy Guha of University of Kolkata delivered a lecture “Rolland, Tagore, and Gandhi: The Quest for Peace and Light in Troubled Times”. Prof. Dr. Chinmoy Guha chaired the Panel on The role of Culture and Ethics in Politics. The event also featured lecture and discussion on Serbian-Sanskrit Closeness held in Novi Sad which was attended by Prof. Dr. Dragan Stanic, President of Matica Srpska, university professors, students and other academicians.

The 3-day event was attended by scholars from Serbia, India, USA, Ireland, Czech Republic, and Montenegro as well as representatives of local educational, scientific, cultural institutions and prominent academicians.
